	Main area of activity of the organization:	Breeding of highly productive grades of silkworms and gipsy moths adapted to the local conditions. Obtaining of new bio-stimulants and application of them in the silk production industry. Studies of the role of geo-chemical specifics of microelements in exploring poly-metal deposits. Collection, improvement and protection of plants genomes in actual ecological conditions and their rational use. Studies of mudflows formation phenomenon and development of scientific recommendations on prevention of mudflows.
	Main scientific achievements made over the last five years:	Breeding of highly productive grades of silkworm resistant to diseases and productivity rate 8-10% higher than with regular grades of worm. Completion of studies of influence of bio-stimulants on silkworm productivity. Obtaining of new natural dye for coloring of the leather-skin and wool. Development of scientific recommendations on prevention of formations of mudflows. Breeding of new grades of apple, pear and cornelian cherry trees. Discovery of the role of micro-elements in exploration of poly-metal ores deposits. Conducting of studies of folklore of Belokan-Sheki region of Azerbaijan, collection of a big number of handcrafted items and organization of folklore museum. Publishing of monographs dedicated to geographical problems of Sheki, Gakh, Zagatala, Oghuz, Ballakan regions of Azerbaijan. Defending of 2 dissertations for the Candidate of Sciences degree.
	Brief information on the organization’s history:	Sheki Regional Scientific Base was first organized at the Institute of Physics of the Academy of Sciences. In 1977 Sheki Regional Base was given a status of independent Sheki Regional Scientific Centre. Since 1972 "Silkworm breeding", "Physics", "Chemistry", "Geology", "Wild and Cultural Plants Genome" laboratories have been established, and since 1990 "Mudflow Studies" , "Folklore and National Handcraft and Arts" laboratories have been added.
